Fading but not gone!

I recently paid one of our regular visits to the WHS and surrounding area to check on the growth of the algae following our experiment with putting natural yoghurt on the graffiti in the hope of covering up the filth. The level of growth is disappointing though it is still early days I suppose. The graffiti has faded a little more though and so it looks like this is going to be a very slow process. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep people informed.

Whilst at the site we could not help but notice the encroachment of ploughing in the field next to the WHS. In previous years the ploughing has been close but never this close and considering the farmer was approached by various groups and asked to leave a border this request has obviously fallen on deaf ears! We will ask Mike Phillips of Mid Kent Downs Countryside partnership to approach the farmer and remind him of the previous request to leave a decent sized border. We have also raised the question with Mike about the continued deliberate damage to the width restrictions and fencing in the area.  The width restriction has been completely ripped out at the Blue Bell Hill end of the path and this has allowed vehicle access, which has in turn caused damage to trees and hedge plants.

Litter continues to be a problem in the area, obviously people still find it hard to take their rubbish with them and find it much more rewarding to throw it on the ground or in the hedgerow.

Mike Phillips has a meeting this week which we hope will provide some answers to the issues raised.

We would also like to make folk aware that on Monday 28th Feb there will be a Spring Clean of the Boxley Warren run by Mike and his team.  If you are interesting in helping out please meet at the Pilgrims Way (Lidsing Road end) at 9.30am. Bring suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor work, clearing shrubs etc. Bring a sandwich and flask but tools will be provided. I’m sure that Mike and his team could do with any willing hands.

Regards, Asrad
