Odainsacre Hearth Trash Cleanup

A report from a Guardian’s event in North Carolina USA:

On Sunday, May 21 Odainsacre Hearth AOR, under the banner of the OR Environmental Concerns Office, conducted a trash pickup at Falls Lake in Raleigh, NC.

Falls Lake is a fishing area and the main water supply for Wake County. At 12 noon five members met with nine others from the local Odinic community, including two children, at the Blue Jay Point County Park’s Environmental Education Center.

We made our way down to the lake and split up after everyone got their bags and rubber gloves. Picking garbage out of the brush, off the shore and fishing it out of the water, we bagged the normal bottles, cans, and Styrofoam cups in addition to dangerous objects such as fishing line, netting, and fish hooks. I personally could not help but wonder what kind of people throw trash into the lake then fish food out of it.

As it was 85 degrees and there was a toddler and infant present we headed back after an hour. Surprisingly we filled about ten trash bags. I say surprisingly as just weeks before as I was scouting the location there was much less litter.

After checking for ticks and other lovelies we headed back to the park for a BBQ. We got to know many other Odinists from our area and many ideas for future activities were bounced around. Afterwards the hearth had the unfortunate task of unloading the trash, which smelled as lake trash would be expected to. We can expect to have this odor offend us more often, as this type of activity must be an ongoing endeavour.
